Abstract:

PESTICIDES ARE CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES USED IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION TO PROTECT CROPS AGAINST PESTS [1]. THEY HELP TO ACHIEVE BETTER QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF CROPS; HOWEVER, THEY ALSO ARE CAPABLE OF CAUSING OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES IN FARMERS. SKIN IS THE MOST EXPOSED ORGAN WHILE SPRAYING THE PESTICIDE ON FIELDS [2]. WITH DECREASE IN THE TOXICITY OF IMPROVED PESTICIDES, ATTENTION WAS TURNED TO CHRONIC INTOXICATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINATION. FARMERS EXPOSED TO ARSENIC PESTICIDES ARE AT RISK OF OCCUPATIONAL SKIN CANCER, MOSTLY MORBUS BOWEN (CARCINOMA IN SITU), MULTIPLE BASAL CELL CARCINOMAS AND SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMAS. NONARSENIC PESTICIDES, E.G. PARAQUAT, ARE ALSO POTENTIALLY CARCINOGENIC. THE TABLE 1 SHOWN THE PREDICTED PROBABILITY ACTIVITY (PA) OF THE TITLE PESTICIDES THAT CALCULATED BY PASS SOFTWARE. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE HIGHEST PROBABILITY OF EMBRYOTOXICITY AND SKIN IRRITATION CAN OCCUR BY PROTHIOFOS, THE OTHER SIDE, CARCINOGENICITY AND MUTAGENICITY ARE CREATED BY AZOTHOATE AND PHOSNICHLOR RESPECTIVELY. THEREFORE, OUR RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ALL THREE PESTICIDES WHICH MENTIONED ABOVE CAN CAUSE DANGEROUS DISEASES.

Abstract:

Many human DISEASES such as cancer, neurological DISEASES, autism and diabetes are associated with exposure to PESTICIDES, especially organochlorine PESTICIDES. However, pesticide exposure is also associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) as the leading cause of death worldwide. In this systematic review, results on the link between organochlorine pesticide pollution and CVD were collected from databases (Medline (PubMed), Scopus and Science Direct) in May 2022 from studies published between 2010 and 2022. A total of 24 articles were selected for this systematic review. Sixteen articles were extracted by reviewers using a standardized form that included cross-sectional, cohort, and ecological studies that reported exposure to organochlorine PESTICIDES in association with increased CVD risk. In addition, eight articles covering molecular mechanisms organochlorine PESTICIDES and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) on cardiovascular effects were retrieved for detailed evaluation. Based on the findings of the study, it seems elevated circulating levels of organochlorine PESTICIDES and PCBs increase the risk of coronary heart disease, especially in early life exposure to these PESTICIDES and especially in men. Changes in the regulatory function of peroxisome proliferator-activated γ receptor (PPARγ), reduction of paroxonase activity (PON1), epigenetic changes of histone through induction of reactive oxygen species, vascular endothelial inflammation with miR-expression 126 and miR-31, increased collagen synthesis enzymes in the extracellular matrix and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and fibrosis are mechanisms by which PCBs increase the risk of CVD. According to this systematic review, organochlorine pesticide exposure is associated with increased risk of CVD and CVD mortality through the atherogenic and inflammatory molecular mechanism involving fatty acid and glucose metabolism.

Abstract:

The contamination of organochlorine PESTICIDES (OCPs) from the selected rivers in Okinawa Island was investigated to estimate the current status of pollution in water, plants and surface sediments in these rivers. The Aja River, Asato River, Houtoku River, Kokuba River and Okukubi River were selected for this study. The concentration of the total PESTICIDES were in the range of 0.94-231.8 ng/L in river water, 0.006-191.6 ng/L dry weight in river sediments and 0.001-55.8 ng/L dry weight in plants. Among the OCPs, ΣHCB of α-BHC,β-BHC and Aldrin were the common detected compounds in river water. The α-BHC, Aldrin and Dieldrin were the most frequent detected compounds in river sediments and α-BHC and Dieldrin were the common OCPs detected in plants. Aldrin, Dieldrin and ΣHCB were in abundance. Various contamination patterns between the selected river water, sediments and plants were observed. Aja River, Asato River and Houtoku River were contaminated with α,β,δ,γ- BHC,  Aldrin and Dieldrin (water and sediments) whereas the main OCPs in Kokuba River and Okukubi River were Dieldrin (plants) The OCPs levels in all rivers were generally below guideline values in Japan, but some sites displayed levels which exceeded the EC and WHO Standards for Aldrin, Dieldrin and α, β-BHC.
